NZXT recently announced a couple of new motherboards designed for 12th generation Intel Core processors: the N7 Z690 and N5 Z690. The N7 Z690 presents itself as a premium pairing model and has armor that covers most PCBs, Wi-Fi 6E, and fast memory support up to DDR4-4800. The N5 Z690 chooses a less aggressive approach at a lower cost but still comes with Wi-Fi 6E and supports all Intel Alder Lake Core processors.
Starting with the most acclaimed new pair of NZXT motherboards for the 12th generation Intel processor family, the NZXT N7 Z690 has the same design as previous versions of its N-Series models, including the N7 Z490. Like previous N-Series models, the N-Series is designed for its range of chassis, such as the H-Series models, for a seamless look and design. Perhaps the most striking feature of the N7 Z690 is that it has armor that covers almost any PCB for a cleaner and nicer look.
Under the thin armor, there is space for up to three PCIe 4.0 x4 M.2 disks / drives and four SATA ports for conventional HDDs and optical media disks / drives.
The NZXT motherboards include:
- A full-length slot with PCIe 5.0 x16.
- A second full-length slot with PCIe 4.0 x4.
- A full-length bottom slot with PCIe 3.0 x4.
Among the full-length slots are two PCIe 3.0 x1 slots; while the N7 Z690 includes DDR4 memory support with speeds up to DDR4-4800, it has four slots supporting 128 GB.
The NZXT N7 Z690 motherboard is available in black and white color. It includes a midrange functional controller kit including a Realtek RTL8125BG 2.5 GbE controller, Intel AX210 Wi-Fi 6E CNVi & a Realtek ALC1220 HD audio codec.
NZXT N5 Z690 is cheaper in the pair but does not include all the N7 armors; rather, choose the barebone look that users are used to with other entry-level motherboards. It has the same network configuration as the N7 (RTL8125BG 2.5 GbE and AX210 Wi-Fi 6E) but uses the cheaper and lower Realtek ALC897 HD audio codec and also supports DDR4 memories up to DDR4-5000 amazing speeds.
It has exactly the same PCIe configuration as the N7 with one PCIe 5.0 x16 full length, one PCIe 4.0 x4 full length, one PCIe 3.0 x4 full length, and two PCIe 3.0 x1 slots. The N5 Z690 even features four PCIe 4.0 x2 M.2 slots, which is more than the more expensive N7 Z690.
